Content Delivery Network (CDN)
In short
A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is a distributed network of servers positioned around the world that cache and deliver website content from a location physically close to each visitor, reducing loading time.
Rather than every visitor's request travelling all the way to a single origin server, a CDN stores copies of images, scripts, stylesheets and sometimes whole pages at edge locations near major population centres. A visitor's request is then served from the nearest edge node, cutting the distance data has to travel and therefore the time it takes to arrive. Most CDNs also absorb traffic spikes and provide a first line of defence against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
For Caribbean businesses whose customers and search-engine crawlers are often based in North America, the UK or Europe, a CDN meaningfully improves the loading speed a remote visitor experiences compared with a site hosted on a single server, which in turn supports better Core Web Vitals scores and a lower bounce rate. It also helps with resilience: if regional connectivity to an origin server is degraded, cached content served from the edge can keep a site available.
